Students in GD20: Introduction to Typography were challenged to create animals built entirely from words, letters and punctuation to be used in a fictitious promotional poster for a zoo. They worked from a photograph and matched the tones and textures to create the letterform animal. The objective was to demonstrate different techniques in Adobe Illlustrator for "painting" in letters and words, including brush tools created from letters and mesh distortions of words. The animals were then inserted into a template poster provided by instructor, Kathy Thornley to show how this illustration technique might be used in a real-life project.
